The house at 31 Sutherland Ave, Ascot, is for sale.

THIS Ascot house is in one of the oldest — and most sought after — streets in Brisbane.

Houses in Sutherland Ave are owned by the likes of an aviation CEO, a real estate chairman, and an-award winning fashion designer, and was voted Brisbanes best street 2018 by leading real estate entities.

The original part of the house was built in 1911.

Susan and Philip Blake could not agree more, having lived in the exclusive street of just 16 homes for 22 years.

Their 31 Sutherland Ave house was built in 1911, with a liberal member of parliament living in it for 12 years from 1912.

The Blakes have restored the history of the home, with the front of the property displaying character features, with VJ walls, picture rails and arched fretwork.

It has polished timber floorboards, VJ walls and arched fretwork.

“Its charming, it has got the beautiful wide wooden floorboards and its got leadlight windows.”

Mrs Blake said it had been previously extended, and they added onto it further, but keeping with the character of the home.

“They had taken the roof back down to normal height … so we took the ceilings back up, extended the top and the bottom level and added on decks,” Mrs Blake said.

She said the house had received a fresh lick of paint last year.

Mrs Blake said the location of the property was a drawcard, particularly due to its proximity to Ascot State School.

Out on the back deck is her favourite place to relax, spending countless hours there over the years.

The backyard is quite spacious and level.

“There is a bar fridge out there, a TV to watch sport and it overlooks the big backyard and the pool,” she said.

“Nearly every family event has been held out there, and I can sit on the back deck and picture all of those things that weve done.”

Mrs Blake believes the house would be suited to a family, who could enjoy it as much as her own.
